What a day! What a
great day! I feel so grateful and so blessed. I've known for several months that Drew would more than likely need to have bilateral eye probing (open up his tear ducts). Surprisingly I was not stressed or overly worried, perhaps because I had known it was coming for so long.
I woke Drew up at 5:10am. Just enough time to get a new diaper on a priesthood father's blessing and get him in the car. Adam gave a sweet and comforting blessing. I am so grateful for that power.

We arrived at the hospital at 5:45 and checked in around 6, got called back to pre-op at 6:30.

We stayed in pre-op for an hour. It started to get a little long. We were all starting to get tired, and I was feeling bad for Drew that he couldn't eat or drink. He was such an all star! Adam and I took turns holding and entertaining him. I tried to get onle last picture of Drew's sweet eyes all watery and gunky. This is as good as I could get.

He was an allstar when it came to getting his vitals and oxygen checked. Such a sweet kid. I also thought he made the tie in the back pajamas look pretty cute.

When the anesthesiologist came to talk with us she asked how she thought Drew would do with the separation. I told her I thought he would struggle for a couple minutes and then wind down. She left and a couple minutes later she came back witht his sweet car! We put Drew in and let him drive around and get comfortable then switched "drivers" and off to the OR he went. Seriously, I thought it was such a smart idea. The cutest thing was Drew had Mickey in the car with him, he took Mickey's hand and had Mickey try to honk the horn.

He went to sleep with out a problem and the surgery took 45 minutes. They had to break small bones on both sides of his nose in order to opne up the ducts. Dr Napier told me that was a possibility if the bones were protruding at all blocking the ducts. He came out of the anesthesia fine but was extremely out of sorts. We arrived back in post op just after he had woken up and was being held by a nurse. He reached for me quickly be continued to thrash, scream and throw whatever we tried to soothe him with. We stayed in post op for a good 1/2 hour trying to help him settle down, get some juice and relax. He hated the IV and the oxygen sensor seemed to bug and irritate him. When he finally calmed enough to take a drink he inhaled 2/3's of the juice in mulitple gulps without coming up for air and then starting crying and screaming again. He otherwise looked great. His eyes didn't look swollen or even really irritated, just a little blood around his nostrils.
We eventually made it down to the recovery room where we changed him and he began to seem a little more oriented and stable. We got to the car and give him his favorite food- Ritz crackers, and life was good.

By the time we got home he was eating Lucky Charms and acting like it was just another day! So amazing!

I put him to bed after his snack and he slept from 10am until around 4pm. He was just exhausted. I was nervous for when he woke up, but I should have known he would be great. He woke with a fairly bloody nose but he didn't seem to notice or even really care. I feared his nose would be tender, but he didn't bat an eyelash to indicate he was in discomfort.
Grateful for all the prayers of friends and family. It sure made a difference for him and me! I didn't even cry-- just got watery eyes a couple of times:)
